The State Administration for Market Regulation recently approved and issued the first “Calibration Specification for Infant Phototherapy Equipment”, aimed at unifying the quality control standards for neonatal jaundice treatment equipment. This specification clarifies the metrological characteristics, calibration conditions, items, and methods of the equipment to address issues such as poor treatment outcomes or skin and eye damage caused by deviations in irradiance. Currently, phototherapy is the most common treatment for neonatal jaundice. In China, approximately 8 million newborns each year experience jaundice, with 60% of full-term infants and 80% of premature infants suffering from it. Delayed treatment can lead to irreversible neurological damage. The issuance of this specification will improve product quality and ensure that irradiation treatments for millions of newborns are safer, more precise, and more effective.
