On September 9, 2026, the Cross-border RMB Payment System signed agreements with 11 foreign banks, bringing countries such as Rwanda, Turkey, and Uzbekistan into the system for the first time. After the signing, participants in the system are located in 133 countries and regions worldwide, with business coverage expanding to 192 countries and regions. Muzi Mamusso, the head of finance at First Rand Bank in South Africa, said that this move will provide faster and more transparent cross-border RMB settlement services, reducing reliance on multiple intermediate links. In addition, the Cross-border Guarantee product of the RMB Cross-border Payment System was officially launched, facilitating cross-border guarantee transactions between banks and bank enterprises. In the future, China will accelerate the construction and promotion of a fast payment system and continue to promote the interconnection of cross-border payment QR codes. Starting from October 17, 2026, the operating hours of China’s large-value payment system will be extended from “5x21+12 hours” to “5x22.5+13.5 hours,” improving the interoperability of the global payment network at a technical level.
