In August 2026, several Chinese automakers accelerated their efforts in the field of humanoid robots to cope with the shrinking profit margins of the automotive industry. Xpeng Motors completed a financing of over $900 million last week, with a valuation of $6.3 billion; its Iron humanoid robot focuses on commercial applications. BYD launched a humanoid robot product called “Xiao Di”; Chery plans to launch related projects this month. Changan and GAC Motor are also in the process of research and development. Although Chinese automakers have hardware advantages, they still face challenges in catching up with Tesla in AI technology. Additionally, Hyundai Motor plans to deploy Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot at its Georgia factory by 2028 and establish an application center. Supplier Mobileye has also acquired a humanoid robot startup to join the competition.
