On August 21, 2026, CCTV Net reported that China’s scientific research team made a major breakthrough in the field of materials science, successfully synthesizing the world’s longest single-atom-diameter “metal wire”. This achievement marks China’s leadership in the preparation of metal structures at the nanoscale, providing crucial basic materials for future high-performance electronic devices and quantum computing research.
For the first time, Chinese scientists successfully synthesized a “metal wire” with a single-atom diameter that exceeded the micron level in length. By scaling the diameter and length proportionally, this results in a household copper wire measuring 4 meters in length.
