Elon Musk confirmed that SpaceX’s secret foundry in Busto, Texas, will be used to manufacture gas turbine blades. This move aims to address the global power bottlenecks in data centers by producing key components in-house, and it is expected to delay the commissioning of gas turbines by up to 18 months. Currently, due to capacity limitations of manufacturers such as GE Vernova, large-scale service providers like Amazon, Google, Meta, and OpenAI are turning to build their own gas power facilities to supplement solar power. Although the hottest areas for gas turbines reach temperatures of up to 3600 degrees Fahrenheit, far exceeding the melting point of the alloys used, and they must be slowly grown in a vacuum furnace in single-crystal form, currently only four companies worldwide have the ability to produce them on an industrial scale, and their capacities are already exhausted.
