Instagram puts new limits on undisclosed AI profiles | TechCrunch

On Monday, Instagram announced new policies to restrict profiles that incorrectly disclose AI-generated content. The policy changed the name of the “AI creator” tag to “AI-generated profile”, and stipulated that if creators did not explicitly indicate that their profiles were generated by AI, their content’s reach would be reduced; accounts that used the new tag correctly would not be penalized. Instagram said that this adjustment was aimed at addressing users’ concerns about profiles that appeared to be real but were actually generated by AI. The policy applies only to the use of images, and does not cover additional features such as photo editing, copywriting, or graphic creation. Previously, Wired investigated dozens of suspected AI-generated influencer accounts on the Goose dating app, and The New York Times reported on numerous fictional medical and health-related AI accounts on social media.
