The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi on September 4. This is the tenth year since the forum was established. With the theme “Collaborative Carbon Accounting for Smart Future”, the forum brought together more than 200 expert representatives from governments, research institutions, and enterprises to focus on new approaches to the coordinated development of electricity, carbon markets, and computing power. In recent years, with the development of artificial intelligence, computing power has become an important driver of electricity consumption, and carbon accounting and carbon markets are becoming increasingly closely linked to the power system. As an important national energy base, Shanxi will have 9,048.4 million kilowatts of new and clean energy installed by 2025, accounting for 55.1% of the total electricity capacity, surpassing coal power for the first time; the volume of green electricity transactions will reach 10 billion kilowatt-hours, ranking among the top in the country.
