The open-source Android app store F-Droid intends to follow Debian community policies, allowing the use of generative AI for development. The ultimate responsibility lies with human contributors. Last week, Debian voted on the fifth option, “Use generative AI responsibly,” which does not prohibit the use of AI for software development and documentation. However, it requires that all AI-generated code and documents meet quality and legal compliance standards. While the official policy encourages disclosure, it does not mandate it. F-Droid’s current proposed policy directly copies Debian’s policies (only replacing the main name), allowing AI to be used throughout the entire process of development, maintenance, packaging, and documentation. Developers must use AI responsibly, and the responsibility remains with human developers.
