In August 2026, Meta announced a $18 billion child safety cooperation agreement aimed at protecting minors from online threats through technical measures. However, the age verification technology relied on in this agreement performed poorly in practical applications, making it difficult to accurately determine users’ actual ages, thus raising doubts about its effectiveness. Currently, the successful implementation of this agreement still depends heavily on whether the above technical bottlenecks can be resolved.
