“App content moderation is insufficient: UK plans to enhance security measures for minors on iOS and Android systems”

Regarding the issue of children taking, sharing, or viewing nude images due to insufficient app content moderation, British Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stated that the government will promptly introduce legislation requiring technology companies such as Apple and Google to implement identification and blocking mechanisms at both the application level and device functionality. The new measures aim to deploy identification and interception mechanisms during image capture, viewing, and sending to prevent private images from being used for online deception and extortion. The previously set three-month voluntary improvement period ended because it failed to fully stop related dissemination. Apple has already introduced relevant features and supports third-party applications; Google is willing to cooperate on research methods for protection. If companies implement restrictions before the legislation is passed, the government will reevaluate the necessity of the law.
