“Many people in the energy storage industry: Relevant departments are conducting a comprehensive assessment of production capacity, and the approval process for new production projects by enterprises has been postponed.”
In response to the increasing risk of overcapacity in the energy storage industry, relevant departments are conducting a comprehensive assessment. Approval for new energy storage projects that have not yet started construction will be postponed, but projects that have been registered and are under construction will not be affected. Industry experts point out that the current planned expansion of energy storage cell production far exceeds global real demand, which can easily lead to price wars. To address this, four departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have held several symposiums to study and deploy measures to regulate competition. They have also initiated the development of a group standard for the “General Rules for Cost Accounting Models of Power and Energy Storage Batteries,” aiming to encourage enterprises to adopt more refined operations and promote the industry towards higher quality and standardized development.
In response to the increasing risk of overcapacity in the energy storage industry, relevant departments are comprehensively assessing the current and planned capacity levels, and postponing approval for projects that have not yet started construction. Energy storage cells are one of the key areas; projects that have been registered and are under construction will not be affected. Tian Qingjun, senior vice president of Envision, noted that this year, the industry plans to expand production of energy storage cells by more than 800GWh, with approximately 1.2–1.5TWh being produced by the end of the year. The total capacity will exceed 2TWh, far exceeding global real demand, which may trigger price wars. Four departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have held several symposiums to study and deploy measures to regulate competition, and have initiated the development of the “General Rules for Cost Accounting Models of Power and Energy Storage Batteries” as a group standard. This aims to encourage enterprises to adopt more refined operations and promote the industry toward high-quality and standardized development.
