Projects on data funded under the Digital Europe Programme
The European Commission has funded several projects through the Digital Europe program, aiming to facilitate the safe and efficient sharing of data among businesses, public institutions, and researchers. Based on the European Data Strategy of 2020, this program seeks to strengthen Europe’s data economy and promote artificial intelligence innovation. To simplify regulations and reduce administrative burdens, the Commission has supported two digital solutions: first, requiring public sectors to provide high-value datasets for reuse free of charge under the Open Data Directive; second, funding four projects through DIGITAL-2022-CLOUD-AI-02-OPEN-AI to support public sectors in opening their data to artificial intelligence. Additionally, the EU is promoting the establishment of a universal European data space covering 14 industries/fields, ensuring that data is shared and exchanged in a trusted, secure, and interoperable manner, with the Data Space Support Centers providing coordinated, scalable, and sustainable development support.
