The Asian Clean Air Center recently released the report “China’s Atmosphere 2015–2025: The Progress of Air Pollution Prevention and Control in China”, which systematically reviewed the effectiveness of environmental governance in China since 2013. Data shows that, despite nearly doubling GDP, a 48% increase in energy consumption, and a 189% surge in the number of motor vehicles, the annual concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon monoxide nationwide have decreased by more than 50%, and the proportion of days with good air quality has increased by over 10 percentage points. The report indicates that mobile sources have achieved a substantial decoupling between development scale and emissions, and the governance model has shifted from focused breakthroughs to a comprehensive approach that combines structural adjustment, standard constraints, and intelligent supervision. This achievement is thanks to a well-developed policy system and the support of an integrated monitoring network of “sky-air-ground”. The results aim to provide references for subsequent planning and Asian developing countries.
