China Commercial Aircraft C909 has completed the RNP AR certification flight, verifying its high-precision navigation and operation capabilities in complex terrain

The Civil Aviation Shanghai Approval Center recently organized multiple flights of China Commercial Aircraft C909 aircraft for RNP AR (Required Navigation Performance with Special Authorization) approval flight tests. These tests were conducted in stages across plains, plateaus, and high-plateau areas, successfully verifying the aircraft’s key performance capabilities in high-precision navigation and operation in complex terrains. RNP AR technology is one of the most stringent operating standards within the performance-based navigation system. It uses onboard navigation equipment and global navigation satellite systems to fly precisely along preset routes, without relying on ground-based navigation stations for guidance during takeoff and landing. Compared to traditional instrument landing systems, this technology allows for the selection of more optimal and safer flight paths under strict airspace restrictions, effectively avoiding obstacles and reducing operational standards, thereby significantly reducing flight delays and return flights due to weather conditions. C909 is a 90-seat medium- and short-haul turbofan regional aircraft independently developed in China.
