“Linux developers call on Microsoft to release a native Linux version of Office”
On September 7, 2026, David Hinemeyer Hansson, founder of Omarchy Linux, publicly suggested that Microsoft launch native Linux versions of Word and Excel. He pointed out that although the web versions are available, there is still a約 10% difference in functionality experience for advanced Linux users. He directly asked Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about the implementation path on social media. David emphasized that Microsoft’s revenue focus has shifted to cloud services and subscription business, and the Windows operating system is not its only pillar. Currently, there are 1.6 billion monthly active Windows users, but cloud computing revenue far exceeds Windows licensing revenue.
