A survey conducted by YouGov showed that 46% of American respondents opposed the deployment of surveillance cameras on Flock in their communities, while 38% supported it, a reversal from last year’s majority support. Flock operates over 120,000 license plate readers to track vehicle locations. Previously, dozens of American communities rejected its equipment or canceled contracts due to police abuse and privacy concerns. The survey indicated that more respondents felt such surveillance did not make them safer. Although Flock CEO Garrett Langley called for a compromise between surveillance and privacy and introduced new safeguards, critics such as the American Civil Liberties Union deemed these measures insufficient, and Flock remains a significant threat to civil liberties.
