“Low-value social interactions, please contact my secret…agent.”
On September 4th, WeChat launched a new social feature in beta testing. This feature allows two AI assistants to establish independent conversations and exchange information independently. The function extends content interaction through “Ask WeChat”, supporting article interpretation, forwarding, and context summarization. However, it does not support task scheduling, mass messaging, or scheduled message sending. It only allows text messages and requires the recipient to actively respond. In the future, if the function is further improved, Agent social interaction can be applied to scenarios such as office task tracking, financial processes, and maintaining weak relationships. This will reduce the burden of exchanging low-value information and provide communication buffer; however, it may also reduce the social warmth due to weakened emotional contact. WeChat’s move aims to enhance the weight of social relationships to build barriers in the era of AI agents, distinguishing itself from ByteDance’s social plans and Meitu’s “AI-enhanced acquaintance social” strategy. Its core logic lies in using established relationships as a trust foundation for agent communication.
