Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indosat and NVIDIA Open Indonesia’s First University AI Center to Develop Local AI Talent

The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs, Indosat, NVIDIA, and UGM jointly launched the “UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center” in Yogyakarta. This is Indonesia’s first university-based AI technology center. Established under Indonesia’s Excellence in AI Center program, the center aims to integrate resources from government, industry, and academia to develop AI technologies that address the country’s urgent priorities. Indosat provides the “GPU Merdeka” service platform with sovereign GPUs and NVIDIA’s full-stack AI platform, offering researchers and students enterprise-level accelerated computing, AI software, open-source models, and technical guidance. NVAITC focuses on three initial projects in healthcare, agriculture, and natural disaster response. Among them, the team from UGM Faculty of Medicine is developing an AI electronic nose technology (eNose-TB) for tuberculosis screening, to address the challenge of difficult detection of over one million new tuberculosis cases in Indonesia each year in remote areas.
