Comrade Guan Huashi passed away in Qingdao on September 4, 2026, at 11:18 AM, at the age of 87. He was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a renowned educator, and the pioneer and founder of modern marine medicine in China. He also served as the former vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial Political Consultative Conference and the former president of Ocean University of China. Born in Xiajin, Shandong, in August 1939, he entered Shandong Ocean College in September 1959 and graduated and continued to teach there in August 1964. He joined the Communist Party of China in October 1965. From July 1993 to June 2005, he served as the president of Qingdao Ocean University and then of Ocean University of China. During this period, from June 1994 to September 1999, he served as the deputy secretary and then secretary of the Party Committee of Qingdao Ocean University. He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. He was a representative of the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth National People's Congresses, a member of the Presidium of the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Chinese Academy of Engineering, the first director of the Agricultural Department of the Academy, the vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial Political Consultative Conference for the Eighth Session, a member of the Sixth Standing Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology, and a member of the Fifth and Sixth Standing Committees of the Association.
