LG was accused of severely violating privacy by continuously collecting audio data after voice recognition was activated, even during standby mode. Independent investigative organization Gamers Nexus found that the device generates plaintext audio transcripts and collects information such as IP address, location, and surrounding Wi-Fi network details. Tests confirmed that the TV has the ability to record audio offline and transmit it over the network, and there are remote code execution vulnerabilities. LG previously claimed that voice recognition was an optional feature and that it did not collect environmental conversations, but it admitted that the related hardware technology originated from its advertising service, LG Ads Solutions, which provides automatic content recognition services to measure advertising effectiveness.
