U.S. tech giant Meta has reached a settlement with the 29 states that filed lawsuits against it, agreeing to pay $18 billion. These lawsuits were initiated jointly by these 29 states, alleging that Meta’s social media platform could potentially harm children. As part of the settlement, Meta will pay compensation to each state and promise to invest funds in projects aimed at improving online safety and privacy for children over the next few years.
