According to Nomura’s monthly research report on China’s internet and new media, in July 2026, the average monthly usage time of TikTok exceeded that of WeChat for the first time, making it the app with the longest usage time in China. Among the TOP50 internet apps, ByteDance’s apps accounted for 40% of Chinese netizens’ usage time, rising from 33.6% last year to 40.9%, surpassing Tencent’s 29.1%. In terms of daily active users, WeChat still led with 931 million users, while TikTok had 714 million users, but the gap between the two continued to narrow; WeChat saw a 3% growth year-on-year, while TikTok grew by 19%. In terms of average daily usage time, TikTok averaged 112-120 minutes, while WeChat averaged 82-85 minutes.
