On September 4, 2026, U.S. Chief Justice Colm Connolly ruled that X Corporation (formerly Twitter) had won a court order prohibiting the new app launched by Operation Bluebird from using the name “Twitter”. Although the new app retained the bird symbol and the word “tweet”, the court concluded that X failed to sufficiently prove that it had completely abandoned the use of the “Twitter” trademark. The fact that X still described its app as “Welcome to X (formerly Twitter)” appeared to be key evidence for the court in determining that it retained the trademark rights.
