What we know about the alleged Iranian hacks on US water utilities | TechCrunch

Water systems in approximately 12 states and over 30 communities in the United States were recently attacked by hackers, resulting in the suspension of water supply operations at some facilities. Affected areas include Minnesota, Arkansas, Georgia, New Jersey, and Michigan. US intelligence agencies are certain that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran is responsible for this attack, but the US government has not yet officially identified the suspects. President Trump of the White House previously denied Iranian responsibility and blamed the government of Minnesota. The U.S. Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency had issued warnings about Iranian hackers targeting water and energy systems as early as April and July 28. Despite having more than 150,000 water systems, many operators lack adequate network security resources.
