Meta executive leaves for OpenAI as the social media giant faces growing scrutiny in India | TechCrunch

Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President of Meta for India and Southeast Asia, has resigned and joined OpenAI. She will be based in Singapore to oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, and regulatory matters in the Asia-Pacific region. Devanathan left Meta after more than ten years of service, during which she was deeply involved in the company’s decision-making processes in India. This change in personnel occurred shortly after Prabhjeet Singh took office as the person in charge of Meta in India; he had previously led Uber’s South Asian operations for a long time. Meanwhile, Meta is facing increasingly strict scrutiny from the Indian government: recently, an apology was required and executives were summoned due to a misblocked post by Prime Minister Modi on Instagram, and the government has also questioned and sought explanations regarding child sexual abuse content on the platform.
