On August 31, 2026, Nvidia announced a $3.5 billion investment to acquire Taiwan-based chip manufacturer MediaTek. As part of the deal, MediaTek will use Nvidia’s technology to help design custom AI chips that can be integrated into Nvidia’s data centers, in response to the trend of tech giants such as OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft developing their own chips. This collaboration aims to maintain Nvidia’s leadership in data center infrastructure, allowing MediaTek to access the NVLink Fusion ecosystem and support customers in deploying custom chips and rack-level architectures based on a unified standard platform. Previously, MediaTek estimated that its custom data center ASIC business could generate $2 billion in revenue by 2026.
