The open-source audio editing software Audacity released a new version 4.0.0 on September 3, 2026. This version completely reengineered the interface, rebuilt it based on Qt, and introduced a home page and configurable workspace. Existing shortcut keys, compatibility with old projects, and the layout remained unchanged. New features include overlapping clip replacement, multi-selection and grouping movement, non-destructive trimming restoration, dedicated segmentation tools, and volume envelope functions. The built-in effects were also redesigned. Muse Group confirmed that the software remains open-source and free, but it is clear that the new version does not include DAW features such as virtual instruments and MIDI. The current priority is to ensure efficient audio editing.
