American venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) announced that it has expanded the size of its fifth growth fund to $8.5 billion, an increase of $1.75 billion from the initial $6.75 billion in early January. This fund aims to support companies in the expansion phase, those experiencing product development, and those seeking to expand into new markets. Over the past seven years, it has invested in more than 100 companies. Recently, a16z also announced the raising of $1.1 billion for a new fund called the “Machine Era Fund,” focused on AI hardware startups. With the advent of the AI era, a16z is using this funding to invest in enterprise and consumer AI technologies, defense technology, robotics, infrastructure software and hardware, and medical technology across various fields. During election years, it also increases its political lobbying efforts. Previously, the fund announced additional financing of $15 billion at the beginning of the year, with a managed asset size of $90 billion at that time.
