Caterpillar is dynamically applying its experience in mining automation to AI applications, covering work sites, quarries, and construction sites. The company currently sells automatic mining carts, drilling equipment, and remotely controlled construction machinery, and provides software command centers and fleet management systems. Its CTO, Jaime Mineart, says that AI technology is used not only for site scanning and digital twin generation at manufacturing locations but also for code modernization, software development, and defect detection within enterprises. The Cat AI Assistant tool allows technicians to access maintenance procedures via voice commands, diagnose problems, and identify required parts. This system operates based on data from approximately 16 million Caterpillar assets worldwide. To address the challenges of employee transformation, the company plans to invest $100 million over the next five years to train its 118,000 employees in AI, automation, and robotics technologies.
