TIOBE’s September 2026 Programming Language Ranking is out: Python leads, with Julia close to the top 20
On September 7, 2026, TIOBE’s official website released the latest ranking of programming languages. Python ranked first with a share of 17.76%. C, C++, Java, and C# ranked second to fifth; Rust, SQL, R, Swift, and Objective-C saw an increase in rankings compared to last year. Julia is just one step away from returning to the top 20, competing for market share among scientific computing languages such as MATLAB. Ada and Objective-C replaced Perl and Ruby to return to the top 20. The top 10 positions remain stable. TIOBE Index is based on global search engine data and comprehensive evaluations of developer activities.
