On September 9, 2026, China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced that the first expansion and adjustment well at the Enping 24-2 oil field, located approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Shenzhen in the Pearl River Estuary Basin, was successfully put into operation. This marked the official commissioning of China’s first oil and gas in-situ expansion platform for depths of up to 100 meters. The platform adopted the “old platform with new modules installed in situ” approach, accurately installing a new operating platform without affecting the existing production system or stopping operations. It added 12 new wellbore sections and supported the deployment of 16 adjustment wells, effectively solving the problems of saturation of existing platform locations and limited production capacity. Since its operation began in 2014, the Enping 24-2 oil field has produced over 12 million tons of crude oil. This technological achievement further improved China’s deep-water oil and gas development technology system, playing an important role in stabilizing oil and gas production and enhancing China’s energy self-sufficiency.
