The prediction market platform Polymarket recently announced that it has received approximately $300 million in new investment from 1789 Capital, a fund managed by Donald Trump Jr. The total amount of funding for this round is about $1 billion. Previously, 1789 Capital had invested $200 million and supported projects such as Enhanced Games. Currently, Polymarket is facing severe regulatory scrutiny: at least 20 states have filed lawsuits regarding sports betting; the federal government advocates for regulation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rather than state governments, while the Attorney General Alliance in 44 states opposes the CFTC’s jurisdiction. Members of the Trump family recently stated that the industry already has “strong regulation.” TechCrunch has contacted Polymarket for comments.
