Between 2024 and 2025, Waymo and Zoox caused more than two injuries to test drivers due to sudden stops or turns of autonomous vehicles, including sprains, pain, and whiplash-like injuries. According to OSHA data, Transdev reported 16 Waymo-related work-related injuries involving three cities, while Zoox confirmed at least 8 similar incidents. Although some injury cases during the initial operations in new cities may not have been recorded, former Zoox employees stated that fatal injuries still occurred in their test fleet in July 2026. Both companies emphasized that safety is of utmost importance, and these injuries were part of deployment verification procedures, with some sudden stops being inevitable.
