According to Interisle, in 2025, the number of new registrations for global top-level domains (gTLDs) reached 85 million. As of May 2025, 8.5 million of these domains were listed on the blacklist. Terence Eden estimates that the abuse rate is at least 10%, possibly close to 20%, meaning that one out of every five newly registered gTLD domains is a scam website. ICANN says this issue has been discussed for many years.
