TIOBE announced the programming language rankings for September 2026. Python ranked first with a share of 17.76%. Julia re-entered the top twenty and narrowed MATLAB’s share. The ranking is based on data from global engineers, courses, and search engines. The top four languages are Python, C, C++, and Java. TIOBE CEO Paul Jansen said that although Julia first entered the top twenty in summer 2023 and was later pushed out, it is now very close to returning to the list; MATLAB’s rank dropped two places during the same period.
