Apple plans to officially launch the foldable iPhone in 2020. Due to memory shortages and excessive costs, the starting price of this model has been raised from the original plan of $1,999 to $2,199, and the top-tier version may cost nearly $3,000. The product features a “short and wide” design, with an inner screen of about 7.8 inches and a 5.5-inch outer screen, aiming to create differentiation and ease of grip. To overcome challenges such as fold creases, hinge reliability, and flexible covers, Apple ultimately used a titanium-aluminum alloy hinge system and custom glass developed in collaboration with Corning. Although its durability and battery life are inferior to some competitors, Apple addresses these issues with its software ecosystem and industry-leading manufacturing quality. Wall Street expects sales of around 7 million to 10 million units this year, and IDC researchers believe it may become a symbol of high luxury in the Chinese market.
