OpenAI has launched a safe version of ChatGPT for teenagers, with additional anti-cheating and mental health protection measures

On August 18, 2026, OpenAI officially launched a ChatGPT version designed specifically for teenagers. This version aims to address the issues of suicide, mental health problems, and school cheating among teenagers caused by lack of security measures in previous versions. New features include “Study Mode,” which provides guided questions and step-by-step support to encourage exploration rather than direct answer retrieval; when cheating is detected, the system will prompt this mode along with quizzes and learning visualization tools. Additionally, the product includes protections based on the “Under-18 Principles” to reduce exposure to harmful content by default, and provides additional control options for parents. OpenAI also collaborates with CodeAI to help teenagers learn about the principles and applications of artificial intelligence. Although teenagers may be able to bypass digital restrictions, the actual difficulty of circumventing them remains to be tested.
